The Solar Home requires electricity conversion from 12v dc battery power to 120-240v ac, which is what the house runs on. The Whistler 800-Watt Power Inverter at Walmart for $57 is enough to power roughly 6 or 7 amp devices. It has a surge capacity of 1600 watts, which is enough to power my coffeemaker, or the PC and monitor, with the network. The surge protector almost becomes a moot point, as I'm aware of what's on each circuit, and a lightning strike somewhere other than my yard will have no effect.
